Christie Pits Film Fest

Here at Open Roof we invite all sorts of partners on board to present our events but our festival doesn’t leave us much time for us to join in on someone else’s party – until now!  This summer we’re proud to co-present the Christie Pits Film Festival, featuring three summer nights of outdoor film screenings. You can see why we like this, right? Check out what they have planned:

Christie Pits Film Festival presents When We Were Young, cinematic tales of youth and growing up, under the stars. The second annual Christie Pits Film Festival kicks off this summer with a lineup of nostalgic coming-of-age favorites.

Remember the magic summer nights of your youth? Make your way to Christie Pits Park on July 22nd, July 29th and August 12th for summer movies in the park, and experience them all over again! On the first Sunday evening, revel in the early Tom Hanks vehicle Big, a youthful romp about a boy who wishes to be a grown-up, only to find his wish come true overnight. Then sit back and enjoy Giuseppe Tornatore’s Cinema Paradiso, a coming-of-age tale of love and movies. Finally, new to the Festival in 2012, come out to see the Viewer’s Choice in the company of friends, fellow cinephiles, and the setting of your favourite park. The public will be able to vote for this title from three choices on the event’s Facebook page.

The first and second screenings are sponsored respectively by Fiesta Farms, and local RE/MAX salesperson Adrianne Parker ( who funded one night in 2011. Other donations have been made by Grapefruit Moon and New Canadians Lumber.

Also new this year, the Christie Pits Film Festival will hold a fundraiser to help cover the operating costs of the screenings. It will be held at The Central on July 12th and will feature beer from Stone Hammer, Dufflet pastries and prizes donated by numerous local businesses for a raffle and silent auctions. TVO’s Saturday Night At The Movies host Thom Ernst will act as emcee of the event.

All three screenings of the Christie Pits Film Festival are co-presented with Open Roof Festival. Now in its third season, Open Roof is a not-for-profit, outdoor music and film festival every Thursday throughout the summer at the Amsterdam brewery.

The Christie Pits Film Festival is made possible with the partnership of the not-forprofit Revue Cinema. The almost century-old cinema is operated by The Revue Film Society.
