The night kicks off with a set from Warner Music Canada artist Sam Drysdale followed by a screening of the Sundance hit Late Night. The comedy, written by (and co-staring) Mindy Kaling, was inspired by Kaling’s real life experiences as the only female writer on the tv show The Office. With Emma Thompson by her side playing a late night talk show host, the film is acerbic, hilarious, full of grrrl power and not to be missed.

Emma Thompson stars as Katherine Newbury, a pioneer and legendary host on the late-night talk-show circuit, in Late Night. When she’s accused of being a “woman who hates women,” she decides to hire a female writer (Mindy Kaling) to help revitalize her ageing talk show and diversify her all-male writer’s room. The Late Night cast includes John Lithgow, Hugh Dancy, Reid Scott, Max Casella, John Early, Amy Ryan and more. Smartly written by Kaling and snappily directed by Nisha Ganatra, the film takes on white privilege, entitlement and questioning how women in power are “supposed” to act today. “Late Night is also the one thing that any and every late night talk show has to strive for: funny as hell, and with something to say.” (IndieWire, Kate Erbland)

Sam Drysdale recently made his major label debut with the release of the single “Like A Man” on Warner Music Canada. The dramatic single showcases Sam’s powerful vocals and is a taste of what is to come in 2019. Drysdale was raised in Guelph, Ontario, Canada – the son of musical parents who influenced him from an early age with everything from Bruce Springsteen to Pink Floyd to John Prine to Carole King. After graduating high school, he attended the Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles where he was immediately flagged as a “songwriter to watch.” His original music has already been cited numerous times by the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International and his debut EP “The Fight” features not one but two award-winning producers – Davor Jordanovski and Grammy winner Paul Brown. Sam Drysdale has been compared to artists such as Alex Clare, Ray La Montagne, and John Mayer. But the truth is, Sam is one of a kind. A unique artist with a unique voice and the ability to write mature, compelling, hooky songs that disguise his young age.
